Today’s devotion is based on 1 Corinthians 3.
In today’s reading, Paul doesn’t sugarcoat his words. He tells it like he sees it. The church in Corinth? Paul says they lack maturity and are still worldly.
That’s a hard indictment against a church. What evidence does Paul have? Well, he says that jealousy and quarreling are the two primary factors that indicate their worldliness.
Where we find jealousy and quarreling, there we find a lack of spiritual maturity.
Paul, however, doesn’t lob a few harsh words at the church and leave it at that. He offers a very real solution to jealousy and quarreling by saying:
The LORD has assigned to each his task. (1 Corinthians 3:5)
This truth is a promise we can stand on. God has given each of us a task. And when we truly believe this, when we finally take God at His word, then we have no reason to ever be jealous. Why be jealous of someone else’s task?
God has given each person a unique purpose.
That includes me. And it includes you, too. God has assigned you a task. And when we’re focused only on completing the tasks He has given us, then we never need to be jealous of anyone.
I don’t want another person’s task. Not even if it seems glamorous on the outside.
True peace and fulfillment come when we are working toward the goal of completing the task God has given each of us.
