And that’s what January 1st is — a fresh start and a new beginning.
How fitting that on the first day of our new 2015 Bible Reading Plan, we’re also reading about the first day God created.
(You can download the reading plan for FREE down below.)
Genesis 1:6 says,
God said, ‘Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.’ (NLT)
Space. Let there be space.
Other translations say expanse (NIV) or firmament (KJV).
Then, in the verses that follow, God called the space “sky.”
Notice the order of creation.
- Day 1: Light
- Day 2: Space (Sky)
- Day 3: Dry Ground (Land)
- Day 4: Sun, Moon, Stars
- Day 5: Birds and Fish
- Day 6: Animals and Man
Before God created life on Day 5, He created space on Day 2.
As soon as I have a little space in my schedule, I tend to fill it up quickly. But on this first day of the new year, God’s Word breathes a fresh message on the very first page of Scripture — a message that resonates deep in my heart: Create space. Make room for new life.
Like an empty womb, God will fill the empty space in our lives with new life.
I need to be obedient and patient though. I need to resist the temptation to fill up my “available time slots.”
The stirrings of the Spirit whisper a call to wait, and a call to watch, as He fills our space with new life.
A lot of people choose ONE WORD as their focus for the whole year, and here at Deeper Waters, we have ONE WORD as our focus too. Our ONE WORD is space. We desire to create a space where women of all ages in all seasons feel welcome.
A space to breathe.
A space to be.
A space to listen.
Above all, a space for you.
And in this space, we invite our Creator in fill us with more of Him.
