Welcome to our online Bible study on Luke!
Read: Luke 4:14-44
I like words. I like reading them and scribbling them. I like teaching kids how to read them and scribble them too.
As an English teacher and a writer, it’s safe to say that much of my life revolves around words — both spoken and written.
I like artistic words and archaic words.
I like foreign words and fancy words.
I like smart words and polysyllabic words.
And sometimes I like to make up my own words.
Our words say a lot about us. For they’re the overflow of our hearts.
Which is why this verse from today’s reading stood out to me.
“All spoke well of Him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from Jesus’ lips.” (Luke 4:22)
It doesn’t matter how artistic my words may be if my words are not gracious words.
It doesn’t matter how fancy my words may be if my words are not gracious words.
It doesn’t matter how smart my words may be if my words are not gracious words.
I stand convicted, knowing my heart is capable of spewing ungracious words.
Lord, forgive me. Help me to be more like You.
Fill my heart with more of You, so my words will be Your words.
