Welcome to our online Bible study on Luke!
Read: Luke 24:36-53
Luke finishes his gospel account with the ascension of Christ. And just before Jesus returned to His Father’s side, He gave a few final words of instruction.
Jesus explained the Scriptures to them. Then He told them to be His witnesses, but they should stay in the city until they have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
They probably didn’t know what Jesus meant by “power from on high.” But they obeyed anyway.
At different times in my life, I have felt called in a certain direction, but the direction didn’t make sense. And it wasn’t what I would prefer. But when I’ve obeyed anyway, I could always see — later — how God had orchestrated events to bring about a life transformation. When I didn’t obey, because it didn’t make sense in my own mind, I could always see — later — how I missed an important opportunity to share Christ with someone.
The disciples didn’t know what Jesus meant by “power from on high.” But they didn’t need to understand. They trusted. After all, Jesus had just come back from the dead!
Is there an area of my life where I’m tempted to want “understanding before doing”?
Or can I simply trust and obey? Doing before understanding?
