Welcome to our online Bible study on John!
— Read: John 17:20-26 —
I don’t spend a lot of time on social media.
In the beginning, it was a fun way to reconnect with friends from afar…the ones I grew up with, the ones I went to high school with.
But once the “online reunions” were over, then social media became another “water fountain” to gather around. And like conversations in “real life,” conversations online become heated sometimes — fueled by strong emotions.
I’ve chosen not to participate in those kinds of online discussions.
Not because I don’t have strong beliefs. I do. And I’m not afraid to express my beliefs. In fact, I do so almost daily here on this website. But I also believe that some conversations are best held face to face, in the context of relationship.
In today’s reading in the Gospel of John, the words of Jesus are recorded.
Jesus prays for all believers, even future ones. And He prays for the unity of the saints.
“May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me.” (John 17:21)
Jesus actually prays to the Father for believers to live in unity.
Unity among the saints is important. We live in a fallen world, however, and we don’t always believe exactly the same way. But there are some essentials we gather around. Which is why a Statement of Faith is posted on this website every day.
These are the truths to which we hold in our hearts and in live in our lives. And this is a place where all can come to know God more through His Word.
