Read: Ephesians 6:21-24
When Jeff turned 35 I said, “Well, honey, it’s official . . . you’re halfway to 40.”
Without missing a beat, he shot back, “No, I’m halfway to 70.”
My accountant-of-a-husband couldn’t miss coming back with the correct math on that one. So when he turned 45, we all had a good time laughing about the fact that he’s now halfway to 90! And I’m not too far behind him.
Halfway to 90. Yep. We’re in the middle years. It’s safe to say that half of our lives have already been lived. So that leaves us with a good look at the second half. What do I want to be true of me when I breathe my last?
I want the words of Paul in Philippians 1:6 to be evident in my life:
“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
I want my life to be a testament to the fact that God is faithful to finish what He started in me. I want to finish strong.
So when I read the final few verses of Ephesians, five words stand out to me: undying love for the Lord.
This is Paul’s message to the believers in Ephesus, as well as all believers today — that we would carry on with an undying love for the Lord. This is my heart’s desire. And this is why I cherish the opportunity we have to journey together through the pages of God’s Word. Because this pilgrimage we’re on is always more fruitful when we journey together.
No matter the miles between us, our hearts are together. In unity. In the Lord. Thank you for traveling with us — these past six weeks — as we’ve traversed the pages of Ephesians.
May we carry on, with an undying love for the Lord, together.
