Welcome to our online Bible study on Luke!
Read: Luke 2:1-21
Today we catch a glimpse into the heart of a young mom.
Mary observed the amazing events surrounding her and the birth of her first child . . . a very special child indeed. And she pondered these things in her heart.
As moms we witness the miracle of birth, we are participants of it. Yet, it’s still a beautiful mystery. We hold our newborn and study his or her features.
Does she have her mother’s smile?
Does he have his father’s eyes?
We watch and we wonder. We pause and we ponder.
Like every mother, we dream. We dream of our child’s future. We imagine the day they walk across a podium and receive a diploma. We imagine the day they walk down an aisle and start their own family.
Oh, the dreams in a mother’s heart.
We don’t know how much Mary understood at the time. The angel Gabriel told her that her son would sit on David’s throne. But did she really know what that meant? Could she have possibly anticipated a brutal cross in her son’s future?
The one characteristic most evident in Mary is her willingness to submit to whatever plan the Lord had for her.
And that’s probably the hardest part of being a mom. We don’t know what the future holds for our kids. But we can trust in the Father who somehow loves our kids even more than we do.
That is my prayer.
Lord, help me to love my kids well and raise them to know You. And above all, help me to entrust my kids to Your plan for them—whatever that may hold.
